Nov 7, 2015
Frameworks for Trust and Connection: Tools for Expanding Choice with Partners with Kurt Koegel. 2-6 pm at Grassroots Studio in West Seattle. $30. More details:

The November workshop stands on its own. It will have a
fresh start, begin with new material and explorations. Emphasis in using basic exercises to attend to the theme of communicating and building trust through physical interaction.

Themes for the  workshop will be exploring pathways to get directly to connection and conversation; emphasizing skills for signaling invitation and setting boundaries; and exploring ways to express our preferences and dislikes.  There will also be ample time devoted to observation and open scores to delve into these practices in realistic situations.

The intent is for each person to harvest a “package of skills” to take away and use in one’s own dance practice.

The workshop is for movers wishing to expand their skills, beginners to improvisation who wish abroad set of tools to explore this kind of dancing, contact improvisation practitioners who want to expand their frame of reference, and practitioners of other partnering forms looking for something new.

The workshop will use contact improvisation as a basic platform, however, not in a traditional manner. We will break apart basic structures and vocabulary to explore the
space between moving people; initiating and exiting from contact; and a questioning of the use of the hands to delve into understanding the degree and type of influence offered – and accepted or declined.

The intention is to offer work that is valuable for participants coming from a variety of backgrounds, to offer a work that is fundamental to the communication aspect of all partner dancing.

A Workshop In Voice - Movement - Writing
with Heidi Drucker
The creative interplay of voice, movement and writing can be fun and powerful. In this workshop we’ll tap our individual wellsprings of ability, witness each other, and play with frameworks for creative interaction as a group. We will free-write and explore sound with focus on breath. We’ll find words from sounds, singing from words, movement from singing, and vice versa. We’ll cross-pollinate all these elements to create improvised group pieces. No experience necessary.

$25, Saturday Nov. 21, 1-4pm at Soma Yoga, 1423 NW 70th St., Seattle WA 98117. Contact Heidi at (206-789-8524) or heididrucker@gmail.com.
