Workshop consists of methods of being, particularly with self, and extending those out when “interacting” with others, by deconstructing, undermining and bypassing easily our usual or known mental and physical patterns, and allowing our true/real raw emotional energy to transform our dance movement, as well as ourselves, through behaviorally articulating who we are in aligning with how we are, perfectly.
Stu will lead an introduction with performance and participatory elements for anyBODY on Friday evening. Saturday’s workshop will go into depth researching and practicing the healing potentials of the art of Contact Improvisation: dancing in physical (and other means of) contact with others.
Stu Phillips is a Professional Contact Improvisational Dance Performer and Teacher of more than 24 years, teaching and performing throughout the U.S., Canada and New Zealand, also teaching and performing Improvisational Dance and Theater for 30 years throughout US. The focus is full expression, tuning to emotional and energetic reality constantly in personal flows, portraying that onto students with gentle psychic sensitivity. He is based in Eugene, Oregon.
Suggested Donation: $10-15 (at door) for Friday
$50-60 (at door) for Saturday

The spine has an infinite wisdom. It can curve in and out, spiral and stack with amazing integrity making Contact Improvisation a joyous experience. Using the intuitive and pleasurable “fitting” technique and spine work for which he has become known internationally, Cyrus will lead a six week series where all levels are invited to experience the pleasurable benefit of this approach to CI. Participants also receive 10% off the Centrum jam Dec. 15-18, 2011
Cost: $100-$240 sliding scale
$25 deposit due by Oct. 8. Remainder due at first class.

By building on a solid base of fundamentals; listening, rolling,
weight-sharing, spiraling, and following through with momentum, we
will find ourselves falling into flying, in playful partnering, with
plenty of time for open dancing, individual play and questions. We
will look at contact both experientially and performatively, seeking
ways to evoke rich landscapes of sensation and bring those landscapes
out into the visible world.
Aiko is involved in contemporary dance as a choreographer, performer,
teacher, and arts administrator. Aiko’s choreography has been
presented nationally and in Canada,pic Korea and Japan and she has
danced with numerous regional choreographers, performed in her own
work through acornDance, and toured nationally and internationally as
a member of Lingo Dancetheatre (2002-2007). Aiko currently
collaborates with Aaron Swartzman as UMAMI Performance. Aiko teaches
at Open Flight where she is a resident artist and at Velocity Dance
Center where she was Managing Director until 2005. Aiko is grateful
to be able to play with the language of dance and to express her
identity as an artist, citizen, multi-ethnic person, and physical
being, through movement. Her on-going research reflects her interest
in improvisation, natural physicality, dynamic partnering, and
technique.
Aaron is a dancer, father, improviser, Capoierista and educator. He
has danced professionally since 2001, working deeply with LINGO
dancetheater, LeGendre Performance and collaboratively with Aiko
Kinoshita in UMAMI Performance. Aaron has taught contact and other
improvisational dance forms at the Seattle Festival of Dance
Improvisation, Sierra Contact Festival, Burning Man, and Dance Art
Group's Movement Arts Research series as well as extensively while on
tour with LINGO dancetheater. He believes in the richness and practice
of discovering spontaneous beauty and weaving it towards ongoing
artistic transformation.
