"Lachambre is a stimulator, a magician, a creator of disturbing images and his work questions the accepted forms of representations in dance... Discovering him is like peering behind the clapboard facade of a Hollywood set and finding Albert Einstein at work." (Dance Theatre Journal)

The 2009 Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation (SFDI) presents Off the Cuff, two evenings of innovative performance with leading dance artists from around the world. Off the Cuff is the only chance each year to see these world-renowned artists gather under one roof in the Northwest.

Slated to perform are some of the shiniest stars of the improvisational dance world: "Bessie" Award winners Benoit Lachambre (Montreal) and Stephanie Skura (WA); Contact Improvisation pioneer Nita Little (CA); NYC's Movement Research Co-Founder Daniel Lepkoff (VT); Alicia Grayson (CO); Delia Brett (Vancouver, BC) Margit Galanter (NY); Jack Magai (NY); Karen Schaffman (CA); Susan Schell (ME); Gretchen Spiro (CO); Brad Stoller (PA); local favorites Aiko Kinoshita, Maureen Freehill, Cyrus Khambatta, Tonya Lockyer, Alia Swersky; and many more. Schedule subject to change.

"It's the fierce originality and brave poetry bubbling up beneath the steps that make her an artist for all time... Skura is a great American experimentalist." (Dance Ink)

Friday 7pm:

Maureen Freehill . Cyrus Khambatta . Daniel Lepkoff . Nita Little with Rosemary Hannon . Karen Schaffman with Leslie Seiters . Brad Stollar

Saturday 9pm:

These concerts are part of the 16th annual SFDI (Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation), August 2-9, a world-renowned dance festival offering master classes with internationally-recognized faculty, public performances, jams, and more. 17 dance artists from around the world and the state converge upon Seattle to teach and perform a wide variety of improvisational dance techniques.

SFDI is produced by DAG (Dance Art Group), which is supported in part by 4Culture and the Mayor's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs.
